Statistics
The Statistics and Revenue Protection dept. is part of the finance function in Repak and in the first instance is responsible for collecting packaging data submissions from members. In general it is larger and medium-sized business entities who place more than ten tonnes on the market that make submissions.
Repak use these submissions to calculate a membership fee for each member. The system by necessity is based on the previous year’s return, i.e. January to June 2011 tonnage figures form the basis of the January to June 2012 membership fee. Over 95% of returns come in online through Repak’s bespoke system www. rols.ie.
There is also a comprehensive data-checking and auditing function within the dept. Packaging returns are subject to a suite of sanity checks augmented by manual checks if necessary. External firms of auditors and Repak staff perform packaging data reviews on a selection of member returns each year.
Various packaging studies are carried out on commercial/industrial sectors as required in response to market conditions and as authorised by the CEO.
The historical returns each member has accumulated are used as the base data for some of the free services Repak provides to members such as the waste minimisation programme.
Please see the section on the ‘Statistics Return Form’ for further technical details on making a return and for contact information.
