Annual Waste Management Plan

Repak Scheme Rules require all regular members (those who submit packaging statistics twice annually) to complete an Annual Waste Management Plan

Packaging waste is an important focus of the EU environmental and waste management policy where it is defined as a priority waste stream covered by the EC Directive 94/62/EC on Packaging and Packaging Waste. The Directive aims to harmonise national packaging legislation with the twin objectives of preventing or reducing the environmental impacts associated with packaging and packaging waste. The importance of the Directive is emphasised by the requirement for a waste management plans.

As a member of Repak, your company, under section 4.2 (b) of Repak Scheme Rules, is obliged to:
Prepare and implement a written plan (in a form that is satisfactory to Repak) for the management of packaging waste arising on the Member’s premises and in each year thereafter review and update the plan. Waste management plans have a key role to play in achieving sustainable waste management.

The submission of the Plan is essential for:

  • correct distribution of your annual Compliance Certificate and Notice,
  • informing the relevant Local Authority of all premises covered by your Repak Membership,
  • evaluating entries for the Repak Member of the Year Best Practice and Best Prevention Awards,
  • Focusing your attention on your waste management strategies for the coming year.
